Don't Let The Door Hit You on The Way Out

Or, better yet, let it.

While I was horrified to see that a plane had crashed in the middle of the Hudson River last night (it was night over here), I was incredibly relieved and in awe of the fact that every single person on that plane was rescued. The pilot obviously kept his cool, as he did a brilliant job gliding it in, without power, then walked up and down the inside of the sinking plane twice making sure everybody got off before he himself got off. Now that's a hero, people!

But the other great part of the story?

George W. was scheduled to give yet another goodbye speech to the nation last night, in front of the few people who still like the man (who knew they existed?!), but because of the plane crash, nobody cared. The networks clearly didn't want to be there, and they covered the speech as quickly as possible, then went back to the drama unfolding on the Hudson River. Heck, I don't even think they mentioned his speech over here, as we, too, were watching passenger rescue footage.

Works for me. Would someone please just tell George W. to stop saying goodbye already. And, while you're at it, tell him to stop repeating that history will be on his side.

It won't.

You've done enough, George. Go back to Texas. Quietly, please.

I was also going to say amen.

On second thought it is the most appropriate thing to say:

Amen, sister.

I'm grateful all were saved, it was a small miracle for New York who has suffered so much. I watched the speech, every second of it. I like George W. I wish him God's speed.

A columnist in the NY Times described Bush's orgy of farewells as akin to a 70s rock band that's been on its farewell tour since 1982.

I'd find it pathetic if I didn't find it so disgusting. He should quietly fold his tent and sneak out of town. But then, what would you expect after 8 years of such chutzpah--contrition? Taking responsibility for his misdeeds?

Better times ahead. Certainly the sun will be shining a bit more brightly here across the Potomac come January 20...

It was an amazing thing. The plane event, I mean. Nothing amazing about the last administration because how much incompetence could possibly exist.

Oh he could go to Siberia as far as this Canuck is concerned and it still wouldn't be far enough. Listening to some of the past comments he's made and his clear inability to string a sentence together coherently, it makes me wonder how the US is even still in existence if he was "running it". Thank goodness for limited terms in office.

And yay to the pilot of the plane!

I could possibly feel sorry for the man if he seemed to be in touch with reality in any way, shape, or form. But no. In the (one and only) "farewell speech" I listened to, he's still defending his actions, and declaring that the greatest threat to America is terrorism. At which point I turned the radio off. Better than hurling things at it. (Shoes, maybe?)

It was far better hear about the pilot and his skill and bravery. He's a man worthy of the attention.
