Not-So-Nice Mommy?

Pity poor Baby Boo. In spite of my just-blogged about Nice Matters Award, --for which, by the way, I'm poaching Something Baby Blue's cool new sexy/nice button that she created for the occasion, because it's a little less 'pinky nice' for the old sidebar-- I did something not-so-nice to the wee one.

Well, at least from his perspective perhaps.

Since he's been doing so well with his new breakfast routine this week, when he's been getting a bit of freshly smooshed banana, papaya and baby rice, and his new dinner routine when he's been getting a slightly larger serving of baby rice... I decided to offer him baby rice and a smooshed vegetable with dinner this evening. My chosen vegetable?

Peas.

Yes, peas.

How mean am I? I don't think MF had to eat peas his entire first year, primarily because I'm not a big fan of them myself, and here I am offering them to Baby Boo as his very first vegetable. (Ok, I've always detested the things, although, in all fairness, they're starting to grow on me.) But MF actually enjoys peas and corn and will eat them happily either on their own or mixed into something we create for him. So when I pulled the big bag of sweet peas out of the freezer, I thought, Hey, why the h*ll not!

So I threw a few tablespoons of peas into my new favorite toy and voilĂ , perfectly smooshed peas in seconds. And although I wasn't really expecting much --after all, they're peas!--when mixed into the baby rice, Baby Boo seemed all-too-happy to eat them.

Well, eat them, smear them all over his face... same difference, right?
;-)
Of all the vegetables in the world, my mommy offered me peas! Can you believe it?

some of us like peas, you know? now mushrooms? That would have been nice award revoke-worthy. In my book, anyways. ;)

Ummm... let me get this straight.

You think that you are at risk of having your "Nice" award revoked... BECAUSE YOU TAKE THE TIME AND TROUBLE TO MAKE YOUR OWN SMOOSHED FOOD FOR YOUR BABY??!

Peas from a jar are vile, Vile, VILE... But fresh (frozen) peas, just like his big brother eats??!

Well, just look at his sweet little enraptured face.

We all KNOW you're Supermum.

And he's adorable.

How adorable. And smooshed peas are in KayTar's top 3 foods of all time. Every meal she requests peas, green beans, or sweet potatoes.

As a child I also hated peas. But my mom had this rule that we had to eat everything on our plate before anyone was allowed to leave the table.

Which meant that my entire family had to sit and watch me swallow each pea whole. Then my mother had the brilliant idea to make pea bunnies. Gelatine and peas set into a bunny mould - disgusting.

I like peas. Of all kind. And doesn't the green make for a pretty picture all over his face and bib and everywhere else?

What Candygirlflies said - jarred peas, blech. Nice real peas though? Yum!

I'm often guilty of insisting that my children eat food I'd never touch myself. Bub loves chick peas (which are his main protein source since he refuses to eat meat) - blech.

That picture is friggen adorable! I'm right there with everyone else - jarred peas bad - fresh peas good!

But peas are just so good!

The fresh ones, as everyone has said.

I'm with Aliki -- I loooooove peas. As does Munchkin. And Pynchon too. I guess we're outliers. I gotta say, Baby Boo looks pretty pleased with teh whole situation ...

I like peas! The Happy Boy has loved them from the first time he had them, too, and now, at 2 and a half, he likes to eat them frozen. Yes, he's wierd.

And can I say, that picture is SO adorable!! What a classic face!!

Great picture! I had a hard time giving my kids peas, because they smell that disgusting when they are all mushed up. Ugh. Just the thought.

Gorgeous photo! I remember we used to have to shell the peas - none of this frozen in a bag convenience, we had it tough etc etc - and it was one of those 'helping' jobs that was actually fun to do. So I don't mind the humble pea. However I am very anti-banana and still think I deserve a medal for mashing them up for both my babies. Can't say either of them eat bananas now though, funny about that.

Um, would you think less of me if I said I like peas?? And, it used to be the only vegetable the Boy would eat with any consistency.. Now he won't eat them at all, of course.
